Named Auxerrois in Cahors, Malbec in Bordeaux, it is also known as Côt, Pied de Partridge or Pressac. Originally from Quercy, he is the descendant of Prunelard and Magdeleine Noir des Charentes. It develops in the Bordelais from the seventeenth century.
In the southern hemisphere, Malbec is the emblematic grape variety of Argentina.
It is present on less than 2% of the total area of the Bordeaux vineyard but it accounts for nearly 10% in Tourteau Chollet. Indeed, the owner of this beautiful estate has understood: « global warming is a reality and we must adapt the vineyard! » Between 2013 and 2017, he planted 5ha.
Because of its physiological characteristics, Malbec is much more resistant than Merlot to summer droughts.
It brings color and softness when blended and gives very fruity wines, colorful and rich in tannins.
Today, it is in a good-natured atmosphere that the whole team of Tourteau Chollet has harvested Malbec’s young plantations, helped by the ESAT of Magdeleine de Vimont who works for the professional insertion of men and women with disabilities.
